For Matthew Loker, the law was never a question; it was a calling. With lawyers in his family and a long-standing desire to help people navigate problems they couldn’t solve on their own, Matthew set his sights on becoming an attorney early and never looked back.
Today, after more than 15 years in practice, Matthew is the founder of Loker Law, a firm dedicated to representing victims of identity theft and consumer fraud. His cases often pit individuals against large banks and credit bureaus in high-stakes litigation where clarity, credibility, and efficiency can make all the difference.
Directing the Deposition; Not Just Sharing a Screen
Matthew first adopted TrialPad during the pandemic, when remote depositions became the norm. What frustrated him about the remote setting wasn’t the questioning; it was the presentation.
“I just hated watching people share a PDF in Adobe and try to drag a cursor around the page,” Matthew explains. “It was inefficient and distracting.”
With TrialPad, instead of fumbling through documents, Matthew could control the flow of the deposition, guiding witnesses exactly where he wanted them to look.
“With TrialPad, I could be the director of the deposition, highlighting, calling things out, using the laser, showing exactly what I was talking about.”
That control is especially critical in fraud cases where Matthew frequently compares forged signatures to authentic ones, placing them side by side to make discrepancies unmistakable.
“Instead of asking a witness to remember what a signature looked like, I can just show it. Fake on one side, real on the other. It makes the fraud obvious.”
That same visual storytelling carries into the courtroom. While many opposing counsel still rely on document cameras or static PDFs, Matthew uses TrialPad to present evidence visually, dynamically, and with context.
“People are used to seeing call-outs and highlights from documentaries and true-crime shows,” he says. “TrialPad lets us tell the story the way jurors want to receive it.”
The result? A noticeable edge.
“I get complimented all the time by judges, arbitrators, even opposing counsel, on how clean and effective the presentation is.”
Matthew has now used TrialPad in more than 10 trials and over 50 arbitrations, requiring every attorney in his firm to adopt it for depositions and trial work.
Reading a Transcript Once (Not Three Times)
While TrialPad transformed Matthew’s presentations, TranscriptPad fundamentally changed how his firm works with depositions. Before TranscriptPad, reviewing transcripts was a grind, reading hundreds of pages repeatedly for different purposes.
“I was reading the same transcript over and over again,” Matthew recalls. “Even when I knew what was in there, it still took hours.”
Now, his team reads each transcript once, applying issue codes, highlights, and designations in a single pass.
“We do everything at the same time, from issue coding to highlights to motion prep. That efficiency is huge.”
Paralegals use TranscriptPad extensively as well, ensuring that key testimony is identified and ready long before trial.
From Weeks of Video Editing to Minutes
Where TranscriptPad truly became indispensable, however, was in creating deposition video testimony for trial. Because many witnesses in Matthew’s cases are located more than 100 miles from the courthouse, or even outside the country, video testimony is often the only option. Before TranscriptPad, editing those videos was a nightmare.
“It literally took weeks of my time,” Matthew says. “I was scrubbing video second by second, trying to line it up with the transcript.”
Then he discovered TranscriptPad’s video sync. “The first time I made a video with the sync, I honestly wanted to cry. It was so easy.” By simply highlighting text, Matthew can instantly generate perfectly synced video clips without any manual editing or external software. “What used to take weeks now takes minutes.”
A Verdict That Sent a Message
That efficiency paid off in a recent trial where synced deposition videos played a decisive role. Jurors could see and hear investigator testimony exposing how flawed the bank’s processes were.
“Those videos are what got us that big verdict,” Matthew says.
The jury awarded $20 million in punitive damages, plus $100,000 for emotional distress—the largest verdict of its kind in this area of law. “When the clerk read ‘$20 million,’ we were just flabbergasted,” Matthew recalls. “It was a special moment.”
While the verdict may be reduced on appeal, its impact is undeniable. “It sends a message. Banks and credit bureaus now see what a jury is willing to do.”
Built for Trial
“We were trying to do what the other side was doing with tech teams,” Matthew explains. “LIT SUITE does that, and honestly, I think it does it better.” From seamless iPad-to-courtroom connections to reliable Mac backups, LIT SUITE has become part of the firm’s daily workflow. “It’s easy to learn, it doesn’t crash, and it just works when you need it to.”
For Matthew Loker, using the LIT SUITE is about clarity, efficiency, and persuasion, all in service of his clients.
